STUDENTS' SUBJECTIVE WELL-BEING AND ACADEMIC SUPPORT AS CORRELATES OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE UTILIZATION IN EKITI STATE UNIVERSITY

Abstract

The emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has genuinely brought a lot of ease to the world at vast, particularly among the youth. Artificial Intelligence has not come to replace man but to enable man to function optimally well with less stress and time to achieve the desired goals. This study investigated the extent of utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) among undergraduates of Ekiti State University; determine the influence of each of students' subjective well-being and academic support on Artificial Intelligence on the Undergraduates and further established the combined influence of students' subjective well-being and academic support on artificial intelligence usage in the study area. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The population for the study was undergraduates of Ekiti State University (EKSU) of approximately 37,000 students. Out of eleven faculties in the university, four were selected using simple random sampling technique. From each of the faculties, two departments were selected using convenience sampling technique making a total of eight (8). From each of the eight department, fifty (50) students were selected using simple random sampling technique, making a total of 400 undergraduate students. An adapted research instrument with three scales were used to elicit information from the respondents, which are: Artificial Intelligence Scale (AIS), Subjective Well-Being Scale (SWBS) and Academic Support Scale (ASS). Data collected were analysed using descriptive Statistical analysis, linear and multiple regression statistical analysis. The study found out that, undergraduate artificial intelligence utilization in Ekiti State University was high, at mean weighted average of 3.51. The result concluded that, academic support was a better influencer of artificial intelligence in Ekiti State University.
